Why Volunteer?

International Friends of Reno seeks to share Christ's Love with Internationals throughout the Reno/Sparks area. We are a network, volunteer led, desiring to live out God's love for the foreigner and immigrant in our land. By doing so, we not only care for the physical practical needs of internationals, but also make steps towards make disciples of the nations right here in our city.

International students, immigrants and refugees come here to Northern Nevada for many reasons. Yet what they miss most may be relationships, friendships and family. We have an opportunity to care for and serve the diversity of cultures that have come here, as well as be blessed in the process. Serving internationals can give volunteers a newfound appreciation for God's heart for the world, global travel, and other perspectives. Join the growing team of volunteers who have discovered the joy of making an impact in the life of someone new to our city and country.

What does Having an International Friend Look Like?

Just imagine yourself in a foreign land. The culture and language are new. And you are far away from the friends and family that you know and rely upon.
What needs would you have? What would you miss most?

As a local, just as Jesus said, to love our neighbor as ourself, what would you do?

Serving and caring for internationals is actually quite simple. Perhaps it's picking them up at the airport, and being that first friendly face to greet them when they arrive. Or, perhaps it is helping them see housing options around the city or their work or school (like UNR or TMCC). How about taking them to the fun of garage sales, and local events? Or the beauty of Lake Tahoe. Start with these activities, and you will learn and grow into more ways of serving later.
